Sam T. Lam. Murder Falcon Fan Sculpt (2024).

ZBrush, Marmoset Toolbag.

Based on the comic Murder Falcon by Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer, published by Image Comics with Skybound Entertainment.

“Jake, the power of your spirit has caused my strength to intensify. I thank you.”

My fan art of Murder Falcon, from the eponymous comic by @danielwarrenart and @spicercolor, published by @imagecomics with @skyboundent . This was a labor of love!

I first learned about Murder Falcon about 1-2 years ago from my art-brother @themannydraws , but I didn’t actually get to it until Manny and I reviewed it with @keevyspicy and @ben_hill_art on the @mouthbreathersguildllc ‘s weekly comic-review stream. I fell in love immediately and have now re-read the comic countless times, including poring over several panels like a lunatic.

What the comic is “about”: Our protagonist Jake has to confront kaiju at a time in his life when he just can’t catch a break. From another dimension called The Heavy comes his avatar Murder Falcon, or Murf, who needs the power of Jake’s shredding 🤘🏼🎸 to stay and get strong. They also need the help of Jake’s band Brooticus, and their family and friends, to defeat the kaiju.

What the story is ABOUT ABOUT: Celebrating the power of community, creative passion, and resilience against all odds. I cried several times reading this; a lot of the story beats hit close to home, especially Jimi — Brooticus’s badass drummer (I used to play percussion) — who has to, like me, take care of an ailing parent with dementia. And Murf is the epitome of all the contemporary / contemporizing mythology that is at the heart of my art, in addition to his being a rad metalhead birdman himbo who punches bad guys with a mech arm—which is vibes.
